NEW GLARUS - Avis B. Oppliger, age 96, passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the New Glarus Home.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1916, in the Town of Perry, Dane County to her parents Bernard and Helga (Anderson) Jeglum. Avis graduated from Blanchardville High School. On March 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Martin Werner Oppliger at the Perry Lutheran Church. Avis farmed with her husband and also worked as a nursing assistant at the New Glarus Home and Four Winds Manor in Verona. She was a member of the Primrose Lutheran Church and Primrose ElCA. Avis enjoyed bowling, traveling, and her family.
Avis is survived by her son, Douglas (Janice) Oppliger of New Glarus; a daughter, Elsa Thompson of Verona; four grandchildren, Mark (Carmen) Thompson, Michael (Kristen) Thompson, Jason (Becky) Oppliger and Justin (Nicole Nevil) Oppliger; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard (Alice) Jeglum; sisters, Bea Pope and Lois (Erv) Evenson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Gene, Enos, Curtis and Jim; and sisters, Ethel Logesson and Grace Iverson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the PRIMROSE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 8770 Ridge Drive, Belleville, with the Rev. Nicole Espe officiating with burial in the Primrose West Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the PRIMROSE LUTHERAN CHURCH.
