MOUNT HOREB—Roger E. Sunby, age 84, died on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Roger was born June 27, 1933, to Alfred and Velma (Merryfield) Sunby in Edgerton, Wis. He was married to Donna J. Herrington on Aug. 28, 1954, in Janesville, Wis. Roger taught business education at Rudolph High School and Waterford High School. He merged the South Wayne and Gratiot High Schools and became the superintendent of the Blackhawk School District in South Wayne and then was superintendent of Iowa Grant School District. It was then, that he was hired at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and was head of finance for the State of Wisconsin School Districts for 20 years. He was a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Donna; his children, Sue (Joe) Trainor of Blue Mounds, and David (Brenda) Sunby of Merrill; grandchildren, Stacey (Dan) Kuehn, Peter (Abbi) Trainor, Isabelle, and Lillie Sunby; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Erin, and Brooke Kuehn, Cullen and Jowie Trainor; sister, Ruth (Dick) Towns of Edgerton; sister-in-law, Mary “Punky” Sunby of Milwaukee; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Sunby; a grandson, Jason Sunby; and brother, Alfred “Gene” Sunby.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at the MOUNT HOREB UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with the Rev. Julie Wilson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. on Friday at the MOUNT HOREB UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. The Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, is serving the family. In lieu of flowers or plants, you can contribute to a charity of your choice.
