VERONA—Donald F. “Don” Wuthrich, age 85, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born on June 29, 1932, in Verona, Wis., the son of Rudy and Lena (Eberhardt) Wuthrich. Don was united in marriage with Nancy Lou Fredrickson on Feb. 10, 1960. Together they raised five boys, worked hard, and enjoyed family vacations traveling the country in an RV.
Don proudly served in the United States Navy, in Okinawa, Japan, as part of the construction battalion, aka “ Seebees,” and in the Washington, D.C., ceremonial guard from 1953 to 1955. Back home, Don was an active member of the local VFW participating in the many Hometown and Veteran Day ceremonies. He enjoyed his work as a truck driver, from his early days driving cross-country for American Breeders, to his many years driving fuel tankers for Texaco. Don was an adventurer who loved boating, waterskiing, motorcycling, scuba diving and eating ice cream. He loved the social aspect of getting together with his friends for weekly bowling and golf leagues. Flying was a passion so he earned his pilot’s license and enjoyed his annual trips to the EAA AirVenture. He never met a machine he couldn’t fix, be it one of his old Farmall tractors or mowers he used to keep his farmette looking manicured. He loved his wife, sons, grandchildren, and spending time with all his friends and family at Gray’s Tied House, having a drink and watching the ball game. It gave him great joy to talk about the accomplishments of sons and grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Wuthrich; sons, Dan (Rosanne), Jim (Stephanie), Brett and Chris (Jenna); grandchildren, Nash, Benjamin, Nicholas, Austin, Gwendolyn and Jonathan; siblings, Doris (Rodney) Waldmann and Betty Zurbuchen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dar; his parents, Rudy and Lena; and sisters, Elizabeth and Shirley.
