Update: Samuel Dimaggio, 53, of Fitchburg, was arrested on a tentative charge of operating a snowmobile while intoxicated, causing injury for a crash on Lake Waubesa on Wednesday, the Dane County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday.

Passenger Lisa Rowland, 48, of DeForest, was treated and released at St. Mary's Hospital while Dimaggio was admitted to the hospital.

Two people are safe after a snowmobile crash Wednesday on Lake Waubesa, Madison Fire Department officials said.

At 5:10 p.m. firefighters were called to the lake after a snowmobile carrying the two people tipped over. Neither the passengers nor the snowmobile went through the ice, however, said Madison Fire Department spokeswoman Bernadette Galvez.

Members of the department's scuba team used an Argo — an amphibious all-terrain vehicle — to reach the victims and bring them back to an ambulance on the shore. Galvez said the accident happened approximately 300 yards offshore.

The victims were taken to St. Mary's Hospital with what Galvez called non-life-threatening injuries.
