A gas tax increase of 5 cents a gallon is fair for everyone.

Increasing registration fees is not the answer. It would burden senior citizens even more as they typically don't drive the roads as often as others do.

Increasing registration fees for over-the-road trucks would be more equitable. All you have to do is drive on Stoughton Road from Highway 30 to the Beltline and you will see the condition caused by these trucks.

I don't think my Toyota Prius caused the wear and tear on our roads, so don't penalize me because I am going green and want to preserve our planet for our grandchildren.

Ed, trucks already pay a lot more. Did you check into it? A tractor trailer already pays well over $1000 per year just for license plates, and then another $1000 plus for federal heavy vehicle use tax, a diesel fuel that is higher than gasoline plus all the permits, etc. they have 18 wheels and spread their weight over a much larger area than your Prius. The truth is most damage to roads in Wisconsin is from the freeze/thaw cycles. Here in Arizona, the main roads are in good shape and seldom need repair. I live in both states and can see the damage. I live along I-19 which has major truck traffic to and from Mexico and having been here 6 years there has yet to be a major repair project. The road is still in excellent shape.
