I am concerned about the Foxconn deal, because I fear we could be subsidizing an automated plant that creates few jobs.

I don't see the advantage for Foxconn to build a plant in the United States and pay high wages when they can pay much less elsewhere. But what stops them from getting the taxpayer-funded subsidy and then automating their plant once they've built it? They wouldn't get the whole $3 billion the governor has promised, but the aid could still be massive, and Wisconsin would receive little benefit from jobs or tax revenue.

Foxconn keeps suggesting potential side benefits, including associated businesses and partnerships and investments in healthcare or cancer research. They are promising something for everyone.

Don’t fall for it.
