Republicans in Congress are trying to push through tax laws that would be detrimental to most families and local communities.
To pay for tax cuts for billionaires such as President Donald Trump, millionaires such as U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, and hugely profitable major corporations, Congress plans to raise taxes on many middle- and low-income families and individuals.
Congress also has proposed billions in cuts to Medicare, which I depend on, as well as Medicaid, which very low income American children and adults depend on for their health care. Congress wants to reduce food stamps for poor children and adults and many other programs on which our community relies.
Finally, these changes would increase the national debt by $1.5 trillion. After years of talking about how terrible our national deficit is, I simply can’t understand how this is acceptable. My grandchildren will pay for this giveaway to wealthy individuals and already-wealthy corporations.
I am adamantly opposed to this re-write of our federal tax laws, and I ask everyone to contact their representative or senator now to protest this travesty.
