Dear Editor: I see that our state Republicans are trying to make it legal for people to carry guns without permits or training. A few weeks ago, police arrested a 19-year-old after he tried to ditch his gun (with 29 rounds in the clip). He told police everyone has a gun. Sunday night we had a mass shooting in Las Vegas with 58 dead and over 500 wounded.

In Washington, D.C., Glen Grothman is a co-sponsor of HR 367, the Hearing Protection Act. It would allow people to buy gun silencers. If the Vegas shooter had had one of these, people would not have been aware they were being killed and they would not have started running for cover when they did.

I live on the north side of Madison and we have people shooting up the streets, cars, houses and people on what seems like a weekly basis. I would like to see Republicans working on something other their NRA scores and the political money they get. How about making it more difficult to get a gun, and forget about selling gun silencers for the NRA. HR 367 should be named the Terrorist Assistant Act. When people are shooting up my streets at least when I hear the shots I can take cover.
