NEWARK, Ohio -- Cross Plains locked up a berth in the elimination round of the Babe Ruth World Series on Sunday.
Alex Miller allowed just one run on four hits and Alex Larson and Michael Ballweg each drove in two runs for Cross Plains in a 6-2 victory over Weimar, Texas.
Cross Plains (2-1), representing the Ohio Valley region in the tournament for ages 16-18, will determine its placement as one of the National Division's three qualifiers in a matchup against Middlesex, Mass. (2-1), on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Supporters of the team will gather to watch that game at Coach's Club in downtown Cross Plains.
Portland, Ore. (3-1) has locked up the National's No. 1 seed and earns a first-round bye in the elimination round. Middlesex, the New England champion, advanced by dint of an earlier victory over Weimar.
Regardless of the outcome of Monday's game, Cross Plains will begin elimination-round play Tuesday.
