The trip from Vermillion, S.D., to Madison is 496 miles, if you follow Interstate 90. According to Google maps, it takes 8 hours, 11 minutes.

But the distance between the South Dakota and University of Wisconsin football programs might be even greater, as evidenced by the travel plans for the Coyotes for their game against the Badgers on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

According to the South Dakota athletic department's website, the Coyotes will depart after practice on Thursday. They will stay over Thursday night in Onalaska and work out Friday morning at UW-La Crosse before heading to Madison.

The Coyotes, a Football Championship Subdivision team, do fly on two trips this season. They flew to Denver, then bussed to Colorado Springs, Colo., for their opener against Air Force.

They will also fly to Fresno, Calif., for a game against Cal Poly on Oct. 29.
