For the second straight day, suspended freshman winger Nic Kerdiles was a no-show at University of Wisconsin men's hockey practice Wednesday.
UW coach Mike Eaves said Kerdiles continues to be bothered by headaches, which may well be a byproduct of Kerdiles' ongoing duel with the NCAA. Kerdiles was ruled ineligible for the season for unspecified violations to the NCAA code of amateurism; the school immediately appealed on his behalf. A resolution could come as early as Thursday.
Meanwhile, UW freshman winger Morgan Zulinick also found trouble Wednesday. He was demoted from from one of the top forward lines because, according to Eaves, "He's not been doing his end of the deal away from the rink in terms of academics and meeting appointments.''
Eaves said Zulinick will not play Friday night when the Badgers open a non-conference series with Northern Michigan at the Resch Center in suburban Green Bay.
Sophomore Matt Paape will skate in Zulinick's place with senior center Derek Lee and junior right winger Michael Mersch.
"Ice time is the most precious thing to young hockey players and he's got to understand that it's not just about being an athlete here, it's about being a student-athlete,'' Eaves said of Zulinick.
