UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Sophomore Elliot Krause placed second to lead a pack of five runners in the top eight as the University of Wisconsin cross country team powered to its 11th straight Big Ten Conference title, extending its own record.
Krause, a sophomore, covered the 5.2-mile course in 25 minutes, 5 seconds to earn All-Big Ten honors behind repeat champion Hassan Mead of Minnesota.
Redshirt freshman Maverick Darling placed fourth (25:16,) true freshman Mohammed Ahmed came in fifth (25:21) en route to Freshman of the Year honors, senior Craig Miller finished seventh (25:29) and Landon Peacock was eighth (25:34) for the Badgers.
Wisconsin's team score of 26 was its lowest since 2005. Ohio State finished a distant second place with 91 points, followed by Minnesots (97) and Indiana (106).
The Badgers have won 43 Big Ten titles -- 29 more than the next closest competitor, Michigan State -- and have claimed 28 of the last 33 championships.
"There was a lot of pressure on our guys going into the Big Tens," UW coach Mick Byrne said. "But they responded well and won the conference meet. We're really proud."
Senior Ryan Gasper placed 12th (25:41), junior Jack Bolas finished 16th (25:50), true freshman Reed Connor finished 32nd (26.16) and sophomore Phil Thomas was 33rd (26:18).
"The guys were packed real well," Byrne said. "It was a great team race. The guys fed off each other and it led to a great race."
The Badgers will take a weekend off before competing in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship on Nov. 14 in Bloomington, Ind.
"This is the time of year we train for and love," Byrne added. "We're looking forward to regionals and the NCAA championships."
