University of Wisconsin track and field alumna Dorcas Akinniyi was selected Friday as the Big Ten Conference’s honoree for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Akinniyi, who graduated from UW in May, was a five-time Big Ten champion in the multi-events. The school record-holder in the pentathlon, she earned first-team All-America status six times and was runner-up in the pentathlon at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Akinniyi is one 146 nominees for Woman of the Year. The award will be given out Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.
