Jada Buggs has known for a long time that she wanted to be a Badger. She was just waiting for the perfect time to break the news to University of Wisconsin women's basketball coach Lisa Stone.

That time came Wednesday when she faxed the announcement in the form of a magazine cover that proclaimed "Buggs commits to University of Wisconsin. Go Badgers." She followed that up with a phone call to assistant coach Kathi Bennett and Stone to tell them of her plans to join the UW program in 2010.

"They were pretty excited," said Buggs, a 6-foot wing from Memorial High School in Elkhart, Ind. "I feel very relieved. I've been waiting for this day for a long time. I knew I wanted to be a Badger but I just wanted to wait for the right time."

Buggs becomes the second player to give an oral commitmentto UW for the 2010 class, joining 5-10 guard Morgan Paige of Marion, Iowa.

Buggs, who averaged about 15 points and seven rebounds in helping Memorial to a 20-4 record and a sectional championship during her junior season, chose Wisconsin over Indiana. She said she also received interest from Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Rice, Vanderbilt, Marquette, Bradley, New Mexico and Western Michigan.

"There were a bunch of them," she said. "The recruiting process was starting to get kind of overwhelming with all the phone calls and all the e-mails. So it's a big relief to get it over with."

Dan Olson of the Tampa, Fla.-based recruiting service Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, ranks Buggs No. 74 overall nationally and No. 10 among small forwards.

"Jada's greatest strength is her versatility," said Andrew Wodrich, her coach with the Indiana Elite AAU team. "She has the ability to do a lot of different things on the basketball floor."

The Badgers' top remaining targets for the 2010 class are 6-6 center Nicole Griffin of Milwaukee Vincent and 6-1 forward Tricia Liston of Chicago Fenwick. Griffin and Liston are ranked among the top 50 players in the country.
