‘Tis the season for Top 25 preseason college basketball rankings.
Sporting News came out with its version Tuesday, and the Badgers are ranked No. 17.
Here’s what Sporting News had to say about UW, which will begin practice on Oct. 13:
“With Bo Ryan at the helm, we’ve grown to expect the Badgers to simply plug in players, run their deliberate offense, frustrate teams and win—and there’s little reason to believe they can’t do it again this season. Wisconsin must overcome the graduation of floor general Jordan Taylor, but this team handles significant departures as well as anyone. The Badgers continued winning in recent years after losing star players Marcus Landry, Trevon Hughes and Jon Leuer. Ryan isn’t one to hand over a ton of minutes to a freshman, but Sam Dekker should buck that trend; he is athletic, can shoot from all over the court and can score points in bunches.”
Sporting News has three Big Ten Conference are ranked ahead of the Badgers – all in the Top 5: Indiana is No. 1, Ohio State is No. 3 and Michigan is No. 5. Michigan State is at No. 22
Two of UW’s non-conference opponents are also ranked in the Sporting News poll: Creighton is at No. 14, while Florida is at No. 16.
