From the what did-you-REALLY-expect department comes this "poll" from the Lansing State Journal:
The newspaper based in the backyard of Michigan State University, on the eve of tonight's Spartans men' sbasketball showdown at the University of Wisconsin, asked readers to rate their favorite Big Ten Conference coaches with a thumbs-up or a thumbs down.
As of 9:45 a.m. today, here are the results:
|Coach, school||Love 'em||Leave 'em|
|Tom Izzo, Michigan State||286||14|
|Tom Crean, Indiana||227||39|
|Tubby Smith, Minnesota||204||36|
|Bill Carmody, Northwestern||195||45|
|Tim Miles, Nebraska||138||63|
|Patrick Chambers, Penn State||120||80|
|John Beilein, Michigan||103||159|
|Matt Painter, Purdue||97||136|
|John Groce, Illinois||88||101|
|Fran McCaffrey, Iowa||82||134|
|Thad Matta, Ohio State||66||185|
|Bo Ryan, Wisconsin||45||220|
This is the part of the story where we remind everyone the poll is "non-scientific" and the participants are largely people who -- unlike many folks this side of Lake Michigan -- have come to love Michigan State coach Tom Izzo.
This is also the part of the story where we remind everyone that Badger coach Bo Ryan, the last name on the Lansing State Journal list, has the best Big Ten win-loss percentage (.716) of any coach in history.
Of course, if you live in East Lansing (or the surrounding area), there is a lot not to like about the local coach. Ryan is 13-9 against MSU, including 8-1 at the Kohl Center where the Spartans finally won during the Bo Ryan Era for the first time just last year.
And this is the part of the story where we invite you to cast your vote in the two polls that accompany this story and tell us which Big Ten men's basketball coach you like the MOST ... and which one you like the LEAST.
Please vote in BOTH polls (we figure we know how the voting for most popular might go).
Thanks for playing and enjoy tonight's game.
