The University of Wisconsin football program gained a sought-after recruit when cornerback Sojourn Shelton of South Plantation, Fla., orally committed to the Badgers on Tuesday.
Shelton, rated as a three-star prospect and No. 71 nationally at his position by Scout.com, announced his intentions on Twitter: "Committed To The University Of Wisconsin #OnWisconsin #badgers."
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Shelton, who decommitted from Florida State in July, is the 15th known member of the 2013 recruiting class, which will be unveiled in February.
Shelton picked Wisconsin over Cincinnati, Nebraska, Central Florida and Wake Forest.
UW has had success recruiting defensive backs in Florida, including five on the current roster.
“We have this mentality down here to be great,” Shelton said of Florida cornerbacks, to BadgerNation.com.
“I think we have the best players in the nation. Not to take anything anyway from anybody in any other states, but we have the mentality of all or nothing. I think that’s why I play the way I do.”
