The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents on Friday approved the contracts for football coach Gary Andersen and his two coordinators.

As previously reported, Andersen has a five-year deal that will pay him $1.8 million his first year (with a $400,000 base) and go up $100,000 the next four years. That means he will be paid $2.2 million in his fifth year.

Offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will both get two-year contracts at $480,000 per year, which includes base salaries of $300,000.

All of the contracts still have to be signed, according to a UW spokesman.

Defensive coordinator Chris Ash and offensive coordinator Matt Canada both were scheduled to make $265,000 last season for the Badgers.

The total compensation for the nine on-field assistants last season was $1.973 million.

UW athletic director Barry Alvarez said he is giving a pool of $2.5 million this season to Andersen to split up as he sees fit among the nine assistants.

This seems quite interesting to me. Our AD scoffed at the idea that our assistants were under-paid. I think the words were, "we are very competitive with our coaches salaries".
So, to confirm this, his "action" is paying the new coordinators nearly double on what the old coordinators made and go from a 1 year deal to a 2 year deal (in coaching this is a big deal).
Whether you like the pig farmer or not, it's seems the AD confirmed the main reason BB said why he had to make the tough decision to leave our beloved University...if you don't have the ability to surround yourself with good people, you are going to have a tough road. Looks like someone took their eye off the ball.
