Evan Simon is the new head strength and conditioning coach for the UW football program.
Simon worked under Andersen at Utah State the last four years and the two were also together prior to that at Utah.
Although the move has not been announced by UW, an athletic department spokesman said the hiring is official.
When speaking to local reporters two weeks ago, Andersen acknowledged he was bringing Simon with him from Utah State, but refrained at the time from naming him the head strength coach.
Former strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert left to join departed UW coach Bret Bielema's staff at Arkansas. The Badgers have a highly regarded assistant strength coach in Brian Bott, who has been with the program for 13 years.
Bott, who has worked primarily with the offensive linemen, tight ends and quarterbacks, will continue to be a part of the strength and conditioning staff. He had opportunities to leave in the past and turned down a chance a year ago to be the head strength and conditioning coach at Pittsburgh.
"Evan did a great job with me in the past," Andersen said in the previous interview. "But the strength coach here is awesome, too. Ben did a great job and the communication between coaches who are here and (to) be able to adapt to the new strength coach is real important for us, moving forward and getting those relationships built."
