Big Ten Conference commissioner Jim Delany said the league will consider changing its much-derided football division names when Maryland and Rutgers join in 2014, ESPN.com reported on Monday.
Fans and media have mocked the “Legends” and “Leaders” designations since they were introduced in December 2010. Delany said shortly after the monikers were introduced that the league would re-examine them, but “Legends” and “Leaders” have been in place for the first two seasons of divisional play.
Delany said the league “didn’t have great options” in 2010.
“We have the opportunity to look at it again,” Delany told ESPN. “I don’t have any presumption that we’ll change on it, but that doesn’t mean we’re not looking at it.”
