Big Ten Conference commissioner Jim Delany said the league will consider changing its much-derided football division names when Maryland and Rutgers join in 2014, reported on Monday.

Fans and media have mocked the “Legends” and “Leaders” designations since they were introduced in December 2010. Delany said shortly after the monikers were introduced that the league would re-examine them, but “Legends” and “Leaders” have been in place for the first two seasons of divisional play.

Delany said the league “didn’t have great options” in 2010.

“We have the opportunity to look at it again,” Delany told ESPN. “I don’t have any presumption that we’ll change on it, but that doesn’t mean we’re not looking at it.”

Go with geography and keep it simple:
PLAINS - Minn, Nebraska, WI, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern
LAKES: Mich, Mich State, Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Penn State
If you need to, throw Maryland & Rutgers into LAKES and Indiana & Purdue into PLAINS. Done-

Well, those facetious suggestions make as much sense, maybe more, than the serious ones used by the Big 10 conference, or BIG, to use another silly term they made up.

Seriously, folks, what an opportunity. They can drop their inane L&L designations and blame it all on circumstance, simply pretending it was a good idea in the first place that simply did not work out because of unforeseen developments. But this will probably be their only chance, so they better make hay while the iron is hot!

Rumor has it Delany is trying to change the Leaders to the F you division and the Legends would appropriately be named the Eat S hit division. Thus showing those folks down in the SEC territory that us B1G Ten folks know how to talk with a real college edukation. Local students surveyed on the topic I'm told are all in favor of this new naming. I heard Delany thinks it's a great move if he can get a sponsor for these monikers.
