The University of Wisconsin women's hockey team saw its three-game winning streak snapped Friday as the Badgers fell to Robert Morris 3-1 at the Kohl Center.
The sixth-ranked Badgers (5-4-0), coming off a sweep of No. 3 Minnesota, were never able to get going as they lost their first non-conference game in almost two years.
The win was the second for Robert Morris (4-5-0) against a ranked opponent. The Colonials defeated then-No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth 4-1 on Oct. 3.
"We talked about (Robert Morris's win over Minnesota-Duluth) between periods and referenced it," interim head coach Tracey DeKeyser said. "We talked about how we needed to add pace to the game, great puck movements and just be persistent because we expected a fight, and that's what we got."
After a scoreless first period, Robert Morris scored twice in the second period, with freshman Jennifer Kindret scoring both goals.
The Badgers scored their only goal with 12:32 left in the third period. Junior Mallory Deluce found sophomore Brooke Ammerman behind the goal line. Ammerman found freshman Saige Pacholok in the slot, and Pacholok scored her second goal of the season and make the score 2-1.
The Colonials finished the scoring with an empty net goal by Sara O'Malley with 48 seconds left in the game.
Wisconsin outshot RMU 29-20.
The game saw few penalties, with RMU going 0-for-1 on the power play and Wisconsin finishing 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.
UW freshman goalie Becca Ruegsegger finished with 17 saves, including nine in the third period. Daneca Butterfield recorded 28 saves for the Colonials.
