UW coach Mike Eaves made some notable lineup changes in advance of a WCHA series with top-ranked Minnesota-Duluth that begins Friday at the Kohl Center.
First and foremost, freshman Mark Zengerle has been moved from right wing to center on a line between junior left winger Jordy Murray and freshman right winger Tyler Barnes.
Zengerle's tremendous passing skills have been evident the first 12 games -- he leads the team in scoring with 3 goals, 13 assists and 16 points -- but Eaves said he's also demonstrated the necessary grit and defensive awareness to play the pivot.
Meanwhile, sophomore center and assistant captain Craig Smith will work between freshman left winger Michael Mersch and sophomore right winger Derek Lee, while Jefferson Dahl will center an all-rookie line with left winger Jason Clark and right winger Sean Little.
The top line of senior center and captain Sean Dolan, senior left winger Patrick Johnson and sophomore right winger Ryan Little remains intact.
Sean Little is making his college debut, meaning brothers will skate in the same UW lineup for the first time since 1994-95 when Mark and Mike Strobel did so.
Eaves said Sean Little earned a spot with his effort level in practice and competitive nature.
On defense, junior Eric Springer has returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the last six games. He replaces freshman Joe Faust and will partner with rookie Frankie Simonelli.
As expected, senior Scott Gudmandson will start in goal.
