Brodhead High School junior Carly Mohns has given a verbal commitment to attend the University of Iowa to play basketball beginning with the 2014-15 season.
Wisconsin Academy 17-U coach Reggie Williams, who also coaches the boys basketball team at Madison La Follette, announced the commitment in an e-mail Tuesday afternoon.
Williams wrote that Mohns gave Coach Lisa Bluder her verbal commitment to play for the Hawkeyes after they offered her a scholarship following her participation in the USJN Windy City Classic in Chicago in April.
Mohns, a 6-foot-1 forward, returned this season after tearing her ACL at the end of her sophomore year and was selected as a Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 3 all-state player. She also earned Wisconsin State Journal Division 3 All-Area first-team and Southern Rock Valley Conference Player of the Year honors.
She averaged 14.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game and shot 53 percent from the field. She chose Iowa over UW-Green Bay, UW- Milwaukee, Drake, Illinois State and Bradley.
