PGA Tour Q-School: Appleton's Hayes only state golfer in good shape after 36 holes

PGA Tour veteran J.P. Hayes of Appleton shot a 1-under-par 71 Thursday at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas, and -- at 6-under 138 -- was three shots off the pace after 36 holes of the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School.

Middleton's Jon Turcott (71-145) was tied for 47th place after two rounds. The top 19 finishers plus ties after 72 holes will qualify for the final stage of Q-School and, after 36 holes, that line stood at 140 or lower.

At Beaumont, Calif., Bever Dam's Dan Woltman (72-146) was tied for 60th place -- 12 shots off the pace. The 20 golfers plus ties will advance to the final stage and, after two rounds, that line stood at 141 or better.

At Brooksville, Fla., Brookfield's Tim Cantwell Jr. (72-144) was tied for 48th -- 12 shots off the pace -- while Madison's Jim Lemon (73-147) was tied for 66th and Milwaukee's Mike Johnston (75-151) was tied for 77th. The top 21 golfers will advance to the final stage and, after two rounds, that line stood at 139 and lower.

At Panama City, Fla., Mequon's Skip Kendall (70-140) was tied for 14th -- 7 shots off the pace. The top 20 golfers will advance to the final stage and, after 36 holes, that line stood at 140 or lower.

At Pine Mountain, Ga., former Marquette standout Mike Van Sickle (73-146) was tied for 67th -- 13 shots off the pace. The top 20 golfers plus ties will advance to the final stage and, after two rounds, that line stood at 140 or better.

At McKinney, Texas, River Falls' Neil Johnson (73-148) was tied for 69th -- 15 shots off the pace. The top 21 golfers plus ties will advance to the final stage and, after 36 holes, that line stood at 141 or lower.
