Prep boys basketball: McFarland coach Jeff Meinholdt earns 100th career victory

Junior forward Sean Chislom helped the McFarland boys basketball team make certain that coach Jeff Meinholdt reached a career milestone Friday night.

Chislom scored 11 of his 18 points in the third quarter, sparking a second-half comeback that gave the Spartans a 59-54 victory over visiting Beloit Turner in Rock Valley North Conference play.

The victory was the 100th in Meinholdt’s eight years of coaching at McFarland. The Spartans improved to 7-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

Chislom’s play helped the Spartans tie the score at 39-39 before they erupted for 20 points in the fourth quarter behind 16-for-18 shooting from the free throw line.

Senior guard Anthony Payton scored 18 points for the Trojans (7-6, 4-4).

Junior center Markus Randolph scored 11 points to help the Panthers (5-7) defeat the host Rockets.

Randolph whittled Oregon’s early 11-point lead down to three in the late going, but Oregon made 6 of 10 free throws in the fourth period.

Senior forward Kyle Roberts led Randolph (9-4) with 12 points.

Sophomore forward Brady Ehrke followed up his 22-point performance of Thursday night by going 20-of-24 from the free-throw line and leading the Demons (8-5) with 35 points.

Sophomore forward Wyatt Gallitz led the Pirates (2-6) with 10 points.

Sophomore guard Justin Daye scored 12 of his 16 points in the first half, helping the Pioneers (7-5) earn their second consecutive victory by beating the visiting Blue Jays in non-conference action.

Junior forward Danny Peppey led the Blue Jays (0-11) with 14 points. Cambridge did not make a 3-point basket or a free throw.
