Katelyn Schobert scored 14 points and Keegan Kamps added 13 as host Belmont beat Potosi 52-47 on Saturday night to claim its first regional girls basketball championship since 1978.

Schobert and Kamps each hit 6 of 6 attempts from free throw line in fourth quarter of the WIAA Division 5 game, when the Braves (17-7) also got three free throws from Jordyn Kamps.

Makenzie Brown had 21 points for Potosi (14-10), including 19 in the second half.

Senior Olivia Holland hit a layup with 7 seconds left to send the host Warriors (17-6) past the Ponies (15-9) in South Wayne.

Black Hawk senior guard Jen Wellnitz, a UW-Green Bay recruit, scored 24 points. Wellnitz sustained an injury in a collision with teammate Michelle Flanagan in the fourth quarter and was not on the floor in the game’s final minute.

Montello junior guard Alyssah Kubly scored 21 points.
