Matt Peters has been promoted to girls cross country coach at Madison East, Purgolders athletic director T.J. Rogness said.
Peters, who has been a cross country assistant since 2015, replaces Greg Rittman, who is retiring, Rogness said. Rittman coached the team the past five seasons.
Peters has been the head coach of the Purgolders track and field teams since 2016, Rogness said.
Peters joined the Madison school district in 2014.
Prior to that, Peters, a Texas native, was a teacher, track and field coach and cross country coach in Denton, Texas. He also spent time as a track and cross country graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of North Texas, where he was an All-Conference track athlete (800 meters) and cross country runner.
Peters is a physical education teacher at O’Keeffe Middle School.
