Madison West's Laura Nicholas returns a shot as partner Abby Bremel looks on Thursday. The duo won the No. 1 doubles title.

The third-ranked Madison West girls tennis team earned the No. 3 seeding entering the WIAA Division 1 state team tournament.

And through the luck of the draw, the Regents were paired with a very familiar opponent — fellow Big Eight Conference member Sun Prairie — in a quarterfinal match set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The winner of that match will meet either second-ranked Neenah or Eau Claire Memorial in a semifinal at 9 a.m. Saturday, with that winner advancing to the Division 1 championship match at 2 p.m.

Mequon Homestead drew the No. 1 seeding in the Division 1 tournament, and Kenosha St. Joseph earned the No. 1 seeding in the four-team Division 2 field.

No other area teams qualified for team state tennis this year.
