Three area girls volleyball players — each a senior outside hitter — were named to the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association’s 2017 All-State first team, announced Monday night.

Lakeside Lutheran’s Amber Rowoldt, Sun Prairie’s Claire Chaussee and Waterloo’s Claire Mosher were named to the 12-player, all-divisions first team, selected by state coaches.

Rowoldt and her Warriors provided one of the top highlights of last weekend’s WIAA state tournament at the Resch Center in Ashwaubenon. Lakeside Lutheran (41-9) rallied from two sets down to beat Luxemburg-Casco, 19-25, 13-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-10, in the championship match.

The 5-foot-11 Rowoldt broke the Division 2 state single-match record with 29 kills in the final, giving her a record 48 kills in two state matches. The Warriors swept Waukesha Catholic Memorial in a semifinal.

Rowoldt, who will play next year at NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic, finished the regular season with 456 kills, 437 digs, 18 solo blocks and seven service aces.

Mosher led Waterloo to the semifinals of the WIAA Division 3 state tournament, where the Pirates fell to eventual champion Hartland Lake Country Lutheran, 25-11, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 16-14. Mosher had 11 kills and nine digs in the match.

The 5-11 Mosher, who also played at setter for the Pirates, closed the regular season with 313 kills and 108 assists, with 298 blocks and 19 solo blocks. Mosher, who earned honorable mention on the Under Armour Girls High School All-America team, will join her sister, Madeline, at Marquette University next fall.

Chaussee, a 6-foot senior, earned a repeat first-team All-State honor and repeated as the Big Eight Conference’s Player of the Year. Chaussee’s Cardinals were part of a three-way tie for the Big Eight regular-season title and lost to Janesville Craig in the conference tournament final.

Chaussee will remain a Cardinal in the future, as she will play next year at the University of Louisville. She recorded 541 kills, 251 digs and 81 service aces this season, giving her 1,878 career kills.

Also from the area, 6-3 junior middle blocker Kiana Schmitt of Waunakee made the second team, and 21 area players earned honorable mention.

Schmitt, a Creighton recruit, recorded 346 kills and 115 blocks to help Waunakee finish second in the Badger North Conference and earn a Division 1 state tournament berth and finish with a 44-8 record.
