Scott LaCoursiere is the champion of the inaugural MBA Senior Masters.
LaCoursiere defeated Dave Shaw, 235-227, in the title match of the tournament Saturday at Ten Pin Alley. First was $222, second $139.
Gene Mlsna was third, Dave Rasmussen fourth, and Bob Holzbauer fifth.
The tournament for MBA bowlers 55 and older was contested on the Kegel Middle Road challenge pattern, which is between a typical league condition and a Sport Bowling pattern in difficulty.
The first round cut for the top five was 855 for four games, with Dave Shaw beating Mark Recknagel in a 9th and 10th frame rolloff 60-49 for the fifth spot.
After two more games, the scores were LaCoursiere 1,370, Shaw 1,350, Mlsna 1,327, Rasmussen 1,317 and Holzbauer eliminated at 1,290 for $50.
In the stepladder, Mlsna beat Rasmussen 212-182, leaving Rasmussen with $83, and Shaw then edged Mlsna 207-200, leaving Mlsna with $111.
In the title match, a 10th frame split by LaCoursiere left Shaw needing a double to win, but he left a solid 10-pin after one strike.
The event for MBA members 55 and older drew just 19 entries. Hopefully the event will grow. One logical move would be to join the prominent entities of the senior world (PBA, USBC, PGA) with 50 as the age minimum, rather than 55.
