Luke and Emily Wagner opened a Beef Jerky Outlet store last week in Onalaska’s Crossing Meadows shopping center, and the La Crosse couple plan to eventually open more locations in other markets.
The Wagners bought a franchise from the Tennessee-based chain, whose stores sell more than 200 varieties of jerky. The stores also sell such things as rubs, hot sauces, jams, pickled foods such as asparagus and mushrooms, candy, flavored popcorn and souvenir merchandise. And they offer novelties such as chocolate-covered insects.
“There’s a lot of exotic meat things here that you won’t find at your grocery store,” Luke Wagner said, such as buffalo jerky and elk jerky. He predicted prime rib jerky – made with real prime rib – will be one of the store’s biggest sellers.
The store at 1226 Crossing Meadows Drive – next to Fantastic Sams hair salon — is decorated with taxidermy mounts such as a moose head and a deer head, a wild turkey and a sailfish; and with military photos and old-time photos of Wagner family members and relatives. “I want it to be comfortable and warm,” the Marine Corps veteran said of the store’s interior decor.
At press time, the Wagners had decided store hours would be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, but hadn’t decided what Sunday hours will be. “We’ll be open seven days a week,” Wagner added. The store’s grand opening will be May 21.
The store’s telephone number is 608-781-1533, its website is www.lacrossejerky.com (which offers online sales) and it also is on Facebook.
Schneider Accounting & Tax Inc. has moved to 3410 Mormon Coulee Road on the South Side of La Crosse.
It moved in January from 3458 Losey Blvd. S., said Jeff Schneider, who has been owner and president of the business since it started in 2009.
“Our firm has been growing each year since we started and we needed some additional space,” Schneider said of the reason for the move. “I also felt like we would have more visibility on Mormon Coulee Road.”
The firm provides income tax, financial and business management services to individuals and small businesses. “We specialize in small business bookkeeping, payroll and taxes, which keeps us busy throughout the year,” he said. “We also provide personal income tax preparation to individuals at this time of year.”
Official hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. “But this time of year we are pretty much here 24/7 working on personal and business taxes,” Schneider said. “Clients can call to set up appointments outside of business hours, which we always try to accommodate.”
Schneider Accounting’s website is www.schneideraccounting.com and it also is on Facebook.
Kathy Blencoe has moved her Caring Hands Massage and Wellness practice to inside Driftless Chiropractic at 1022 S. 19th St., in the Jackson Plaza shopping center. It had been in the Exchange Building at 205 Fifth Ave. S. in downtown La Crosse.
Blencoe said her business reopened March 1 at the new location. She said she moved it because of the difficult parking situation at the downtown site.
Caring Hands will have a grand reopening from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday.
Massage services are by appointment only. “The massage is customized to each person’s need, ranging from 30 to 60 minutes,” Blencoe said.
“Each massage is enhanced with Young Living essential oils, therapeutic cupping or the Rain Drop technique,” said Blencoe, who has been a licensed massage therapist for 12 years.
Her practice’s new telephone number is 608-317-9533. Its website is www.caringhandslacrosse.com and the practice also is on Facebook.
