Nine Wisconsin businesses received Family Business of the Year awards Thursday at a Madison banquet, among 30 nominees in the 12th annual contest sponsored by consulting firm Smith & Gesteland, First Business Bank and the Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek law firm.

Winners were chosen by an independent panel, according to a news release from Smith & Gesteland. Three grand awards based on company size were awarded, along with six special awards, to highlight and celebrate the contributions that family businesses make to the state’s economy and to their own community.

Grand Award honorees were:

• C.G. Schmidt of Milwaukee, winner for large companies, or those with more than 200 employees.

• Breuer Metal Craftsmen of Beaver Dam, winner for medium companies, with 100 to 199 employees.

• Gellings Implement of Eden, winner for small companies, with fewer than 100 employees.

Special awards were received by Kalahari Resorts & Conventions of Wisconsin Dells, Milk Source of Freedom, Moyer’s Landscaping of Stoughton, Nasonville Dairy of Marshfield, Stan’s Fit for Your Feet of Milwaukee, and Yahara Bay Distillers of Madison.
