One month after the company that owns The Weather Channel bought Weather Central, 401 Charmany Drive, more than 20 employees of the Madison company face the loss of their jobs.

Weather Services International, of Andover, Mass., told 21 employees at the Madison office last week that their jobs will end by the end of the year, spokeswoman Shirley Powell said. "These positions are, for the most part, duplicate management and back office functions that have been consolidated," she said.

Powell also said five to seven new positions are expected to be created in Madison by the end of the year, mostly in software engineering and enterprise sales.

Weather Central, founded in 1974 by Terry Kelly, of Madison, was purchased by Weather Services International in August for an undisclosed amount. It is part of The Weather Channel Cos., owned by NBC Universal and private equity firms The Blackstone Group and Bain Capital.

This news article only tells part of the story. Weather Central was bought by the Rothschilds a year or so ago. The Rothschilds brought in a superstar CEO who pumped up the company's numbers, then dumped the company onto WSI for a cool $15million profit. WSI then turned around and sacked 21 people, and promised more layoffs in the new year.

Here's how some ex-employees feel about it

Also, the 21 people laid off were not at all "for the most part, duplicate management and back office functions". Most people will be able to smell the bull-speak, but if you have a bad sense of smell, understand that the positions were not at all mostly management functions. (Some of them were, though.)

It's a two-fer. Wisconsin is Open for Business, and Bain Capital creates jobs.

The level of naïveté on these posts is stunning. Companies grow and change. They add positions and eliminate others. That is how they stay healthy and profitable. It is how capitalism works. Capitalism is how the world markets function and grow. Only government workers have a job for life. The rest of the world changes constantly.

Serious?

Terry Kelly builds a business and sells it eventually to retire and so idiots have to find a way to "blame it on Romney".

Losers!

Bain Capital, rotfl!!! BAIN CAPITAL!!!!! i wonder how many of those ex-employees are going to vote for Mittens in this swinging state? Let's hope they can join a competing weather service and put the Bainester out of business, but that might take years. What a waste. Bain is a pain.

They must not know Wisconsin is "Open for Business" huh? Why is it that business types love and welcome competition but the first thing they do in business is buy up the competition and then lay people off? This is classic Bain-mentality isn't it? Now with less competition you are free to rest on your laurels and quit worrying about the competition...

Bain Capital! THE Bain Capital that Herr Romney has sought desperately to distance himself from. Job creator, my patootey!
