Two of the 32 beers to advance to the second round of the Wisconsin Beer Bracket eked by in two of the closest matchups in the beer brawl's five-year history.

The Wisconsin Beer Bracket is a March Madness-style tournament in which voters select which beers move on, with the goal of crowning Wisconsin's favorite beer. You can read more about the tournament and this year's field here

Both buzzer-beaters came in the Water Region.

In the closest matchup, No. 10 Wisconsin Brewing's Inaugural Red advanced past Capital Brewery's Grateful Red IPA by just six votes. It was a first-round matchup replete with connections between the two breweries and beers, beyond just the color referenced in their names. Wisconsin Brewing was formed in 2013 by the longtime brewmaster and former president of Capital. Grateful Red is a reference to the UW basketball student section, while the recipe for Inaugural Red was formulated by UW-Madison student brewers.

In the other close contest, 11 seed Infectious Groove, a Berliner Weisse from O'so Brewing in Plover, upset Great Dane's German Pilsner, a 6 seed, by just seven votes.

The 9 seeds swept their pick-'em first-round matchups, going 4-0 against the 8 seeds. The biggest upset was in a fabled 5-12 matchup, with 3 Sheeps Baaad Boy black wheat ale, the Yeast 12 seed, defeating Wisconsin Brewing's Ol' Reliable, a helles lager.
