An ankle injury to Hales Corners Whitnall senior guard Tyler Herro opened the door for the Waunakee boys basketball team Wednesday night.

And the unbeaten Warriors took advantage, outscoring the Falcons 26-6 down the stretch to take a 54-33 victory in the Rick Majerus Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Invitational at Concordia University in Mequon.

Herro, who de-committed from the University of Wisconsin to sign with the University of Kentucky in the fall, went down with an injury to his left ankle midway through the second half. He had just made a 3-point basket to spark an 8-0 run that gave Whitnall (8-2) a 27-26 lead over the Warriors (8-0).

Before the injury, Herro struggled against Waunakee’s box-and-one defense, shooting 3-for-14 from the field, going the first 16 minutes of the game without a field goal. He finished with nine points.

Waunakee senior Mitch Listau scored 12 of his 21 points in the first half, and senior Mason Steffen added 11. Whitnall was led by Josh Tilley’s 14 points.

Monona Grove 90, Racine Prairie 76

Senior Jake Schroeckenthaler scored 36 points to lead the Silver Eagles (8-0) over the Hawks (6-2) in the Majerus Invitational.

Caden Nelson added 18 points for Monona Grove. Sam Hepp and Jimmy Thome also scored in double figures.

Racine Prairie's J.C. Butler and Troy Mikaelian combined for 48 points.

Greendale Martin Luther 73, Mineral Point 68

Ki-Anthony Blake scored 19 points as the Spartans (8-1) defeated the Pointers (5-2) at the Majerus Invitational.

Mineral Point battled back from an eight-point halftime deficit, but couldn't convert on three opportunities to tie the game in the last 15 seconds.

Wesley Berget had 20 points and Isaac Lindsey recorded 19 for the Pointers.

Sun Prairie 69, DeForest 45

Sunior Marlon Ruffin had 13 points to led a well-balanced attack, as the host Cardinals (7-1) defeated the Norskies (5-3) in the Sun Prairie Invitational.

Sophomore Jalen Johnson tallied 10 points and seven assists, and Delaware Hale added 10 points for the Cardinals, who took a 40-25 halftime lead.

Jarrett Klein scored 13 points for DeForest.

In the other tournament game, Appleton West beat Fort Atkinson, 83-58.

Milwaukee Bay View 78, Lakeside Lutheran 73

Isiah Wright poured in 24 points, with five 3-pointers, to help the Redcats (5-2) top the Warriors (7-1) in the Lake Mills Classic.

Milwaukee Bay View took a 35-31 lead into the break.

Will DeNoyer scored 35 points, making all 14 of his free throws, for Lakeside. Jack Monis added 16 points for the Warriors.

Lake Mills 62, Beloit Turner 46

Adam Moen and J.T. Toepfer each scored 16 points as the L-Cats (5-3) defeated the Trojans (7-2). Matt Johnson added 15 points for Lake Mills.

West Allis Central 63, Madison Edgewood 55

Jacob Fierst scored 24 points as the Bulldogs (4-4) took down the Crusaders (3-5) in the West Allis Central Tournament.

Senior Josh Duffek scored 18 points on six 3-point baskets and senior Mandela Deang added 17 for Edgewood.

Glenn Martin notched 11 points for Central.

Reedsburg 61, Sparta 50

Senior Tyson Tully scored 31 points, including four 3-pointers, to carry the Beavers (5-3) past the Spartans (4-6) in the West Salem Tournament.

Ben Fuhrmann added eight points for Reedsburg. Nick Church and Alex Burke each tallied 10 points for Sparta.

Mount Horeb 64, Shawano 37

The Vikings (6-1) rolled past the host Hawks (4-5) in the first round of the Shawano Sun Drop Tournament at the Kress Center in Green Bay.
