A woman who grew up in Johnson Creek allegedly was murdered by her Army lawyer husband in September, with the husband claiming she slipped and fell.

Sherri Mae Ponsati died Sept. 7 at home in Gilbert, Arizona, with husband Mark-Eric Ponsati calling 911 to say she slipped in the bathroom and hit her head.

However, police started getting phone calls from relatives of Sherri Mae, saying the marriage was not in good shape, and relatives told police he had threatened to kill her.

An autopsy determined she had multiple fractures and blunt force injuries and other injuries.

Mark-Eric Ponsati was arrested Sept. 14 and held on $1 million bond.

Sherri Mae Ponsati, nee Springhuth, graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 2003. She worked at Bethesda Lutheran Group Home.

A memorial service is planned for late November in Johnson Creek.
