A 14-hour standoff in Beloit ended Wednesday night when police learned the man was not in the house, but he was taken into custody on Thursday after being seen on Facebook.

Vernon Lige, 31, of Beloit, was arrested without incident, Beloit police said.

Police and other agencies shut down a neighborhood on Saint Lawrence Avenue after Lige allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend.

Police believed Lige was in the residence, but around 10:30 p.m. determined he wasn't there, so streets were reopened.

The arrest was made with help from Beloit Fire and EMS, whose members recognized Lige from a Facebook post about the standoff.
