A Dane County Jail inmate trying to kill himself was stopped by deputies on Tuesday, with the inmate taken to a hospital after the incident.
It happened at 5:30 p.m. in the inmate's cell on the seventh floor of the City-County Building, the Sheriff's Office said.
"Deputies observed the 28-year-old man with a ligature around his neck, using his body weight to lean forward and asphyxiate himself," said Lt. Krista Ewers-Hayes.
Deputies went in and removed the ligature, with the inmate regaining consciousness.
The inmate was to be put on suicide protocol upon returning to jail. He had been booked into jail on Monday.
