TOWN OF DANE -- A man driving a truck was killed Sunday in a one-vehicle, single-occupant crash on Lodi-Springfield Road, near Stewart Road, about 4:50 p.m., the Dane County Sheriff's Office reported.

Upon arrival, sheriff's deputies found the truck, a 2005 Ford F350, had struck a tree on the opposite side of the road, splitting the bed of the truck from its cab.

The unconscious driver was pinned inside the truck and and was not breathing, the sheriff's office said. Personnel with the Dane Fire Department helped extricate the man, who died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and the crash remains under investigation, authorities said. The sheriff's office did not provide the name or residence of the man Sunday, saying it would be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office, pending family notification.
