Madison police car squad

Drivers on Madison's East Side had to take evasive action Saturday afternoon when an alleged drunken driver wove in and out of traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions.

Julian Freeman, 40, Madison, was arrested in a Milwaukee Street parking lot at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday on tentative charges of second offense drunken driving, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and operating while revoked, Madison police said.

"A concerned Madison woman feared an impaired driver was going to kill someone Saturday afternoon, so she followed him for several minutes while giving a 911 dispatcher his location," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The caller said the driver was weaving in and out of his traffic lane while on South Fair Oaks Avenue and then on Milwaukee Street.

When Freeman was stopped by police, open cans of beer allegedly were found in his car.
