An employee of a Fitchburg grocery store was unharmed early Thursday morning while confronting a man who pulled a knife during a robbery before fleeing.

Police said the armed robbery happened at about 1:50 a.m. at Hy-Vee, 2920 Fitchrona Road.

The suspect attempted to steal several items from the store but was confronted by the employee.

"The suspect then produced a bladed weapon and threatened the employee with it prior to fleeing the scene," the police report said.

Officers searched the area and a police dog was brought to the scene but the suspect wasn't found.

He is black, 60 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, slender, wearing a dark blue or black baseball cap, dark colored jacket and dark colored pants.
