A Fitchburg liquor store was robbed early Saturday morning, police said.

Around 4:30 a.m., the burglar alarm sounded at O'Connell's Liquor Store, 3064 Fish Hatchery Road, after the front glass door had been smashed open using a cinder block, Sgt. Andrew McCarthy said.

Surveillance footage showed a heavy-set man wearing dark sweatpants and a dark hooded sweatshirt stealing hundreds of dollars worth of alcohol and other merchandise, McCarthy said.

A Madison police K9 attempted to track the suspect, McCarthy said, but he was not immediately found.
