A car fire substantially damaged a Sun Prairie house Wednesday morning, while everyone made it out safely, the Sun Prairie Fire Department said.

When firefighters arrived at the 1000 block of Gas Light Drive shortly after 8:45 a.m., heavy smoke and flames were coming out the house's garage. All the family members were found to have made it out safely, and firefighters brought a hose line to the garage to address the burning car, the fire department said.

Another crew headed to the home's kitchen to reduce the spread of the blaze.

The fire in the garage created a tricky situation since the car was leaking fuel, and there was other gas-operated equipment around. Firefighters moved the vehicle out of the garage to tackle other hazards, the fire department said.

No damage estimate was available, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The family is getting help from the American Red Cross. Several other surrounding fire departments and the Sun Prairie Police Department assisted in the incident.
