A Madison La Follette High School student was taken to a hospital for treatment of cuts suffered in a fight Tuesday morning in the commons area of the Southeast Side school.
The fight broke out around 10 a.m. inside the school at 702 Pflaum Road.
Principal Sean Storch, in a message to La Follette families, said school staff responded quickly to the fight, and also called in Madison police to get the situation under control.
"After we brought the situation under control, we were able to continue our normal school day," Storch said in the letter.
"Our staff responded quickly, and the vast majority of our students acted appropriately and followed safety precautions," Storch said. "We are also taking the appropriate followup steps."
Police maintained a presence at the school through the lunch periods.
It was not known if anyone was arrested because of the fight, or how many students took part in the fight.
