A Madison man has been charged with a felony for allegedly crashing his vehicle into the back of a car and keying it on both sides after the driver parked in a space the man was about to pull into at an East Side grocery store last month.
Matthew Moran, Jr., 58, has been charged with criminal damage to property after a witness told police he saw Moran drive a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee into a 2009 Hyundai Sonata in the parking lot at Woodman's Market, 3817 Milwaukee St., before keying it on Jan. 21, a criminal complaint says.
According to the criminal complaint:
Besides the witness's statement, Woodman's surveillance cameras showed the Sonata pulling into a space in the front row closest to the grocery store while the Jeep was waiting to pull into the space. Then, it showed the Jeep driven by Moran circling around the row before crashing into the back of the Sonata, which moved slightly forward.
Less than a minute later, the video shows Moran and two passengers exiting his vehicle and Moran walking by the driver's side of the Sonata. It shows him getting back into his vehicle and moving it a few feet before getting out and walking along the passenger side of the Sonata. He then walked toward the store.
The Sonata sustained about $4,600 damage, according to a damage estimate from an auto body shop, the complaint said.
Moran told police he didn't damage the Sonata.
