A man armed with a knife mugged a woman as she got out of her vehicle Monday evening, the thief making off with the woman's phone.

The mugging happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Brompton Circle on the city's Southwest Side, Madison police said.

The 37-year-old victim just got home and was getting out of her minivan when a stranger approached.

"He was brandishing a small knife and demanded she turn over her cellphone," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The woman handed over her phone and the man fled on foot.

A police dog was brought to the scene but couldn't find the suspect.

The suspect is black, in his 20s, tall and thin, wearing a black baseball cap and a black shirt.
