One person is dead following an explosion inside a Beaver Dam apartment building Monday afternoon, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities responded to 109 Knaup Drive shortly before 1 p.m. for a reported explosion in a building within the apartment complex, the sheriff’s office said. The incident prompted the evacuation of several residents from that building and other buildings within the complex, authorities said.
“The investigation has led law enforcement to believe that there still may be materials present that are requiring the evacuation of several apartment buildings in the immediate vicinity,” the sheriff’s office said.
Evacuated residents were asked to go to the Watermark, 209 S. Center St., until alternative shelter arrangements could be made, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies are assisting the Beaver Dam Police Department in the investigation, with additional information to be released at a possible Tuesday press conference.
