Police said "errant bullets" fired between two vehicles on the North Side Tuesday afternoon hit a third vehicle in traffic and a house with people inside at the time.

There were no injuries reported, according to a Madison police statement released at 2:24 p.m., but officers recovered casings from the roadway on Green Avenue near Knutson Drive that they said were from the incident, described as a "weapons violation" in the statement.

A woman driving in the area had her car's windshield struck by a bullet, as did the occupied home, police said.

Witnesses said the shooting appeared to be between two vehicles traveling through the area. Neither the house nor the damaged car seemed to be intended targets.
