After a shooting on the South Side, a 17-year-old girl with an arm injury showed up at a hospital Wednesday evening, the Madison Police Department said.

Around 7:20 p.m., the teenager's car was struck with bullets near the 2000 block of Fisher Street, police spokesman Joel DeSpain said. The girl drove herself to St. Mary's Hospital for help, but it's not clear what caused the injury to her arm, DeSpain said.

It doesn't appear that the teenager was the target of the shooting, he said. A SUV near the scene also had apparent bullet damage.

The shooting isn't believed to be random, and the Violent Crime Unit is trying to determine who was involved and who was the intended target, DeSpain said.
