Two Madison men were arrested Tuesday in separate drunken driving incidents, with both being felony cases because of past similar arrests.
One man was arrested for his alleged sixth drunken driving offense and the other for his fifth, Madison police said.
Marcus Diaz, 47, was taken into custody at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday after he was found slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle in the Walmart parking lot on Nakoosa Trail.
Diaz was awakened by EMTs, and police found open containers of alcohol in his vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital for an evidentiary blood draw before going to jail on his alleged sixth OWI.
Melvin Brown, 47, was stopped by police at about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday for speeding on Schroeder Road with his vehicle headlights not on.
"The officer observed the driver showed signs of impairment due to alcohol," said Lt. Anthony Bitterman. "The driver also admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the evening."
Following field sobriety tests, Brown was taken into custody for his alleged fifth OWI.
